Bernard Cassiere

Audrey Hepburn once said “Paris is always a good idea”, and in the case of skincare, I believe Bernard Cassiere affirms this statement.

Bernard Cassiere Paris, part of the Sothys International Group based out of Brive, France, is a skincare line composed of natural ingredients, primarily plant extracts.  Plants are naturally rich in antioxidants and contain natural healing properties; each plant contains a large diversity of active molecules that have a better affinity with human skin than synthetic molecules.  The aim of BC formulas is to “never dissociate results, comfort and security”.

I was introduced to this extensive skincare line during my enrolment in the aesthetics program at MC College.  Honestly, I would probably rate skin as my highest priority when it comes to caring for my personal appearance as it has usually been my greatest insecurity.  I wasn’t blessed with flawless skin and microscopic pores.  And in the ever changing seasons we experience in Manitoba, my skin type and skin needs are hard to keep up with.  Since junior high I’ve tried everything: OXY, Neutrogena, St. Ives, Biore, Proactive, Dermalogica, Repechage, Kanshi…  Some products worked, others didn’t.  Some worked for a time but then, as seasons changed and created a change in my skincare needs, the product’s effectiveness waned.

What I love about Bernard Cassiere is that it carries a variety of treatment lines to respond to the many needs of clients and various skin types.  Each line can be used specifically on it’s own or combined with another to target more than one need.  There is hemp bamboo for hydrating care, peppermint for skin with imperfections, bilberry to calm sensitive skin, lemon to combat oily skin, a honey oxygenating line to rejuvenate dull skin, anti-aging red berries and, of course, a cocoa line that relieves stress and protects skin from various aggressions that can weaken the skin defences.

While various products from each of these lines will be available to you through retail purchase at Audrey Beauty & Wellness, the Nutriprotective Cocoa Care line is the premiere BC line I’ve chosen to launch in our facial treatments, because as it is suitable for all skin types it’s a great way to introduce you to the Bernard Cassiere products.  The Cocoa Care line helps bring balance to the skin.  Cocoa has been integrated to the line because of its powerful anti-oxidizing and anti-free radical properties.  The aim of the line is to protect the skin from external aggressions and promote comfort and radiance.

As skin care has always been a high priority of mine, I believe it’s important for everyone to understand the products used on their skin, so below I’ve listed some of the main active ingredients, and their benefits, used to create the products in our Audrey Beauty & Wellness Cocoa Indulgence Facial:

Cocoa Extract:  Derived from the cacao tree and contains natural antioxidants and vitamin C – antioxidant that protects the body against oxidative stress.  Vitamin C is also essential in the synthesis of collagen.  The cocoa extract is antioxidant, anti-free radical and hydrating.

Cocoa Butter:  Papaya extract contains papain – an enzyme with exfoliating properties.  Lemon contains citric acid which is antiseptic and has lightening properties.  Lemon extract is also antibacterial because of its low pH levels.

Vanilla Oil:  Anti-inflammatory and moisture retention properties; antiseptic properties.  Components give this extract toning, nourishing and aromatic properties.

Tahitian Vanilla Husk Extract: Protective, stimulating, antiseptic and relaxing.

Peppermint:  Stimulates nerves which perceive cold, while depressing those that perceive pain.  The body reacts to this sensation by increasing blood flow to area of application thus producing a period of warmth.  Calming, antiseptic, anti-inflammatory and refreshing.

Vegetal Squalene:  Natural organic compound found in olive oil and palm oil.  Bio-compatible to the squalene secreted by the skin’s oil glands and has natural affinity to the skin.  Prevents moistures loss and restores the skin suppleness and flexibility.  Moisturizer and anti-oxidant.

I look forward to providing you with the additional BC skin care facials in the coming months, however in the meantime, I’m so excited to introduce you to my absolute favourite one in your Cocoa Indulgence treatment!  While Bernard Cassiere is available in over forty different countries to date, there are only two distributors for it in Canada.  Their products cannot be purchased online or in stores, due to the high quantity of active ingredients and low quantity of preservatives (those ingredients that make drug store retailers able to stock mass quantities for an extended amount of time; ingredients which take up space and nullify the effectiveness of the product).  For that reason, I must admit I’m not just excited to carry this line in the spa but also because it means I get to order products for my own personal use!  ;)
